A cheap and cheerful red Bordeaux, and a very pleasant surprise. Predominantly Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The bottle is actually quite good looking – nothing outstanding but a certain classiness. Cheap wine is so often desperately ‘jazzed up’ with hideous brightly coloured labels that scream “If we distract them with this mess they won’t realise how rancid the wine is! Woohoo!” The wine has a lovely, and quite intense, ruby colour and a clean nose of red fruit and perfumed violets. It’s youthful and cherryish on the palate, with some really soft tannins and decent acidity. A pretty short lasting hit, but what do you expect for £3?! Perfectly gluggable, with this price tag nobody’s going to be disappointed.
